Workshop/Garage
An old plant has been replaced by a new one. Shops, stores, garages, a machine hall and space for composting and landfill.
An existing staff building was maintained and a newly built tractor garage has been incorporated into the new building surrounding a yard.
A quiet dignity and a link to the activities has been an aim for the expression of the building.
Coherent billowing landscape of the roof. Facades of bricks have been smeared with mortar as if the building emerged from the soil it is set to cherish.
Enjoyable to work with skilled masons. Eight hands tried their way and eventually became as two, forming their own self-confident expression.
The project is nominated for Architects Blekinge Kalmar Architecture Prize 2010 for the following reasons:
"Well adapted building in a sensitive cemetery environment, with its own character, without time-bound gestures and cliches. Finely fitted into the environment with a robust design, brick facades with roof landscape, "honest" architecture to express the secular purpose, but with respect for the cemetery sacred dimensions."
